This is what is left of a rose mallow flower. I peeled back the outer layer to see what was left of the flower inside. I’m afraid it won’t open and the plant will be history this weekend when it warms up and I start doing a little yard repair. The mallow usually dies back and then new plants appear in the fall. I will have to look at the rest of the cold damaged plants for a few weeks before they can be pruned or (worse case) removed. But it’s really just a little inconvenience in the greater scheme of things. I did take this mid-day as it had warmed up.

All the Layers of nature are awesome I concur.
It looks like a starburst! You’ve captured a lot of detail in the fine ‘hairs’ and the blurred background sets the dried flower off perfectly. I also like the bottom part cropped off like that……it adds interest.
Incredible details and color in this, amazing what beauty can be found in!
What a cool flower, love the red, spider like too. Cool!
I like the close-up. Great mellow colors. The details are fabulous and the DOF is perfect.
I’ve never heard of this flower. It has really intriguing shapes, colors and textures.
Very interesting flower…I really like the colors.
Very cool close-up!
Lovely macro! Love the way the sun is catching it.
Layers come in so many different forms. I really like your image. The details in the flower coupled with the red of the outer layer stands out clearly against the blurred background.
Nice clarity and color. It looks otherworldly, like a fuzzy star!!
Just lovely! Wonderful DOF and details and color. Love how you cropped this!
